My travel plans for next year are well and truly underway. If you’ve seen my previous posts or @AbundantTimes YouTube channel, you’ll know that I’m embarking on a van life adventure, travelling the UK from March, living and working in my campervan Birdie with my dog Ziggy. Birdie is now fully transformed into my tiny home on wheels and we’ve already completed our first test run, with the second just three weeks away.
With full electrics, 200 watts of solar, diesel heater, 5G router, Starlink, sink, compost toilet, huge bed, and workspace, she’s everything I dreamt of and more, and I’m excited to see where the open road takes us.
Why such a massive life change?
There are several reasons, some of which I talked about in my last video, but key to the journey is research for my book, The Healthcare Rebellion. I’ll be following in the footsteps of many generations of incredible women who have been, and continue to be, betrayed by a health and social welfare system that’s meant to protect them.
I’ll draw on my own experience with invasive lobular breast cancer. Following my diagnosis in January 2023, I quickly learnt that although not a rare disease, lobular is severely under researched and underfunded, which means there is no specific treatment for the 22 women diagnosed in the UK every day, despite its discovery nearly a century ago!
As I travel, I’ll meet women who are living with the disease or fear a of recurrence, asking how they navigate a system designed to work against us. I’ll examine how centuries of inequality have led to this point, exploring early threads such as the theological shift from ancient earth Goddess to Christianity’s masculine God, the erasure of women’s rights and the difference activists have made in forcing the narrative to change. From the witch trials to separate spheres ideology, forced adoption and health inequality, this is a journey of justice, and rebalancing the scales.
The first four legs
The first part of the journey, which runs from March to June, will cover areas in Wiltshire and Somerset, including Avebury, Silbury Hill, West Kennet Long Barrow, Wells, Glastonbury and the Chalice Well. Next is Devon and Cornwall including Bideford, Boscastle, Minster Wood, Bodmin Moor, West Penwith and Padstow. After that, Exmoor and Bristol, and finally Winchester, the Cotswolds and Berkshire.
