Earlier in the year, I made a monumental decision. I bought a Ford Transit van, named her Birdie, and painted her green in preparation to be converted into my tiny home on wheels. Working on her over the past few weeks in all weathers, with my trusty 12-year-old cockapoo Ziggy by my side, I’ve come to realise how big a part of The Healthcare Rebellion Birdie will be.
Ziggy and I will be hitting the road in March 2027, working and living in her full time. We’re going to travel around the UK, gathering stories and visiting the places and landscapes that form the rich tapestry of the lives of women imprinted on these beautiful isles. To give myself the time and space to fully embrace and live this journey, I’m pushing back the publication date of The Healthcare Rebellion to the end of 2028.
The stories we uncover will form the threads that weave the book together. As we immerse ourselves in the places where women were tried for witchcraft, investigate the erosion of women’s rights through the rise of separate spheres ideology and medical paternalism, the devastating historical impact will be keenly felt. We’ll visit the ancient monuments that hold the secrets of the past, places like Avebury in Wiltshire where women activists have gathered for generations.
The wheels of this journey are already turning and you can follow along on my YouTube vlog – Abundant Times, A Life In Motion.
